Reserve of Zingaro
The Zingaro coast is one of the very few stretches of coast in Sicily that is not contaminated by the presence of a coastal road.
The territory was inhabited by a last family of peasants until about 1960, in the house that today is the museum of weaving, renovated in 2013. The inhabitants used mules to transport goods and water. Today, for the transport of waste and goods in general, mules are always used, the only means of transport possible.
In 1976 the works for the construction of the Scopello-San Vito Lo Capo coastal road had already begun, but following a series of initiatives from the environmentalist world, culminating in a very participatory protest march that took place on May 18, 1980.
The Regional State Forestry Company of the Sicilian Region undertook to expropriate the Zingaro area recognized as being of great environmental interest.
With the regional law 98/1981, the reserve was officially established, the first nature reserve in Sicily, entrusted to the management of the Regional State Forestry Company.
egadi islands
Egadi islands are an archipelago of Italy, in Sicily, between the lower Tyrrhenian and the Sicilian channel. Located about 7 km from the west coast of Sicily, between Trapani and Marsala, in the free municipal consortium of Trapani, the archipelago consists of three islands and two islets, plus a series of rocks and stacks. Already known in antiquity with the Latin name Aegates which comes from the Greek Aigatai or goat islands, the Egadi Islands Marine Nature Reserve is located on the archipelago.
From the geological point of view the Egadi islands are closely connected with Sicily; the archipelago, of 37.45 km², is made up of the islands Favignana, Marettimo, Levanzo and several other smaller islands, some little more than rocks.
The & climate is extremely mild in the winter months and there are long hot and sunny summers. The minimum average winter temperature, in the months of January and February, is 5 degrees, while the maximum in July-August is 45 degrees. Little rainfall.
